Press Release - POWYS PCSO appointment support Print E-mail
Thursday, 29 November 2007
The Countryside and Recreational Access Group (CRAG) wholeheartedly supports the appointment of PCSO Emma Davies and wishes her success in her role to crack down on illegal offroaders in Mid Wales. For some time this rogue element has created problems for landowners, police and the local authority by not sticking to sustainable legal routes. Unfortunately the responsible users which CRAG and other similar organisations represent have borne the brunt of the ill feeling and negative publicity that these illegal activities have attracted.

CRAG’s Chairman Ray Dadd stated: ‘There are still plenty of legitimate routes in Mid Wales that can be ridden or driven legally plus a number of private sites where these people can go. Membership of CRAG or other similar user groups will enable these individuals to understand where they can legally take their vehicles without causing damage or other problems.’

CRAG works closely with Powys County Council, Dyfed Powys Police and CCW to improve relations between responsible users and the authorities and to identify and improve the existing network and try to facilitate the provision of suitable sites on private land for off-road activities. CRAG also researches and maintains a database of legal rights of way and works with local authorities to carry out voluntary maintenance and improvement projects such as drainage and re-surfacing.

Mark Margetts, Regional Team Leader for CRAG in Powys commented: ‘This is a very positive step by CCW and Dyfed Powys Police to deal with this issue and our local group will support Emma in what ever way we can to try and improve the situation.’
