Sarn Helen Footbridge finished Print E-mail
Tuesday, 18 April 2006

A warm, sunny Wednesday saw the final attack on the Sarn Helen Footbridge project. The weather, possibly the best day throughout the whole project saw the removal of the barriers and opening up to users of the Bridge. Several design changes were made to the final slope on the North side with the decision to adopt a more environmentally friendly timber structure being the preferred solution.

With the slope constructed, complete with handrails, a final spin round the structure with spanners ensured that all nuts were tight and the bridge finally safe for users. This project has been quite a considerable undertaking and I am happy to report that the Park Authority are very pleased with the result.

The use of CRAG volunteer labour and plant on this project has offered the Park Authority a considerable discount in their installation costs and aided in the formation of stronger working links between CRAG and the authority. The news of this project and others associated within the BBNP has been spreading within the Local authority circles. It is fair to say that CRAG are firmly being recognised as a useful ally to RoW and HA departments by carrying out works of this kind.

A formal opening will be taking place in the not to distant future, accompanied by Press Releases, etc.

Thanks to all who have given up a great deal of time and made exceptional effort on this project.

Actions speak louder than words!
